Additional Evidence of Schmidt Plagiarism Surfaces – This Time the White House
Peebles, Ohio
Ohio Second Congressional District independent write-in candidate Nate Noy today continued on the path of his anti-corruption campaign trail by releasing NEW evidence of what likely is plagiarism by Jean Schmidt. Noy stated: “This is getting old but my staff and I have uncovered what appears to be Jean Schmidt plagiarizing from the White House.”
Noy provided the following evidence:
“On November 28, 2005 the White House issued a press release titled ‘Securing America through Immigration Reform.’ http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/11/20051128-3.html
On April 28, 2006 Jean Schmidt posted a piece titled ‘MAKING AMERICA SAFER BY STRENGHTENING OUR BORDERS’ on her official US House website: http://www.house.gov/list/press/oh02_schmidt/immigration.html
The White House release includes: ‘Since he took office, the President has increased funding for border security by 60 percent. Border agents have apprehended and sent home more than 4.5 million people coming into the country illegally including about 350,000 with criminal records. The U.S. border must be open to trade and tourism and closed to criminals, drug dealers, and terrorists.
Schmidt’s version states: ‘Since 2001, federal funding for border security has increased by 60 percent. Border agents have apprehended and sent home more than 4.5 million people coming into the country illegally – including about 350,000 with criminal records.’
Schmidt also has published excerpts from this piece on her campaign website: http://www.jeanschmidt.com/JeanOnTheIssuesgroup.htm with a link to the full article that appeared in the Adams County newspaper. There is additional verbatim verbiage between the White House release and Jean Schmidt’s column with no source cite.”
Noy added: “Every college student knows that if you copy verbatim information and try to pass it off as your own you must cite the original source. I guess since Jean Schmidt has given previous sworn testimony that she ‘does not know what kind of college degree she has’ this should come as no surprise to anyone.”
Noy also informed the media that the fact that Schmidt’s column appears on both her official US House website and her campaign website that Schmidt appears to be in “blatant violation once again of the US House code of ethics.” Noy stated: “The US House rules of ethics strictly prohibit any article from appearing on both a campaign website and an official website at the same time.” These rules can be found at: http://www.house.gov/ethics/Campaign_booklet.htm
Noy closed by once again calling for Schmidt’s withdraw from the Second Congressional District race: “Jean Schmidt is what insiders refer to as a RINO or Republican In Name Only. She has voted to ban guns, and raise taxes and her ties to corruption go back to Larry Householder and Bob Tax. The Party needs to purge garbage like Jean Schmidt, why do you think President Bush was in OH-2 yesterday and he did not want to be seen with Jean? Schmidt needs to withdraw from this race and let a true conservative like me go head-to-head with Victoria Wulsin. Vic and I are honest people with opposite ideologies, Jean is ‘high class trash’. The voters will be the proverbial trash collector on November 7, 2006 and by staying in this race Jean risks splitting the conservative vote with me because not every voter has been made aware of her corruption.”
